White Tantric Yoga

WhiteTantric

A Kundalini Yoga Meditation Technique

When they hear the word tantra, most people think of sex, but White Tantric Yoga, or White Tantra, is in fact a powerfully transformational meditation technique. Linked with Yogi Bhajan, who was the ‘Mahan Tantric’ (Master of White Tantra), White Tantra dissolves subconscious blocks and old patterns that prevent people from enjoying their lives fully.

Clearing the Subconscious

The concept behind White Tantra is that the subconscious releases thousands of thoughts per blink of an eye. These thoughts, if unchecked, manifest negatively in the emotions and the physical body, impeding the quest for happiness and awareness. White Tantra, particularly if done over a period of time, clears the subconscious and increases awareness in a powerful and immediate way.

Using the Energy of the Diagonal

‘Envision the energy of the universe as both parallel and perpendicular in nature, like a cloth woven together’, explains the White Tantric Yoga website. In the same way as a cloth becomes stronger when stretched on the diagonal, so the White Tantric diagonal, or the ‘Z’ energy, is stronger. This is how it is able to work so strongly on subconscious blocks.

Structure of a White Tantra Workshop

A White Tantric Yoga workshop consists of between six to eight kriyas, each between 31 to 60 minutes long. ‘Kriya’ means ‘complete action’, and may consist of a yoga posture (asana), a hand posture (mudra), a mental focus or breathing technique (pranayama), and a mantra. The instructions are given using a videotape of Yogi Bhajan, who was also a Kundalini Yoga master, and the workshop facilitated by his representative.

Key to White Tantra is the fact that the meditations are done in pairs (not gender-specific), sitting opposite a partner. It is this aspect that activates the ‘diagonal energy’. Some of the meditations involve maintaining eye contact, with all the challenges and rewards that can present, while others are done with the eyes closed.

Requirements for Practicing White Tantric Yoga

White Tantric Yoga is suitable for both beginners and more experienced practitioners. Whether the goal is to simply tune into one’s inner being, or to significantly deepen one’s spiritual path, there is something transformative to be gained from the workshops. Sitting cross-legged for long periods can be challenging for a novice practitioner, but bringing along a sheepskin to sit on can help. There are also breaks during the workshop to rest, integrate and talk to other participants.

How to Prepare for a White Tantric Yoga Workshop

Participants are barefoot, and wear loose cotton white clothing and a white head covering to enhance the magnetic field and protect the aura. Due to the cleansing nature of the meditation, it is advisable to drink lots of water during the process. Try to keep the body clear of over-stimulating food and drink such as caffeine, meat and alcohol, as this makes it easier to achieve a meditative state.

Testimonials About White Tantric Yoga

The following quotes are some of the words people used to describe white tantric yoga: ‘It was a day filled with joy and freedom’, ‘Everything about my life seems clearer…everyone should experience this opportunity’, ‘Tantric is like climbing a mountain in the mind, it is at times challenging, but the reward is the lingering feeling of strength, personal power, and sweet triumph.’ Yogi Bhajan said: ‘The beauty of white tantric yoga is that it is subtle, it is exalting and it works to give you the mastery of life.’

White Tantric Yoga meditations take place all over the world, throughout the year. See the White Tantric Yoga website mentioned above, for more details.
